Khenpo Tsewang Rigzin was born on January 15, 1982 in Markham, Kham region of Tibet. In 1992, at the age of 10, he began to learn to read and write Tibetan in his hometown school. In 1994, he entered the local Gyaltri Monastery and received monkhood ordination and many initiations and teachings from Kyabchen Gona Panchen. After successfully completing the Studies of Rituals and Practices, he served as the leader of the temple and other important positions. From 1996 through 1999, he spent a few years in retreat. In 2000, he came to the holy land of India in pursuit of traditional Tibetan monastic education and received an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and received precious teachings in front of His Holiness Sakya Trizin. In the same year, he formally entered the Dzongsar Institute of Buddhism in India, and studied all the profound Buddhist scriptures, including the Five Great Scriptures and continued to exercise virtuous Buddhist Practices.
In 2006, he successfully obtained a certificate in Madhyamika Diploma (Note: Madhyamika Diploma, Middle Way Philosophy) – Uma in Tibetan – is five years of schooling. In the following three years, in 2009, he completed the study of major classics with excellent results, and obtained a Degree in Shastri. After successfully completing all the studies in 2011, he obtained the "Lobon" Certificate (Note: Lobdon Degree was awarded on the basis of obtaining the above two Buddhist qualifications). The above diplomas were completed and awarded with the most outstanding results. From His Eminence Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, he received many in-depth teachings, and under tutelage of Khen Rinpoche Kunga Wangchuk, he systematically studied the eighteen great theories and their branches.
Khen Rinpoche received many oral transmissions from teachers of profound knowledge of scriptures. In 2011, he was selected as teaching instructor of Dzongsar Institute. In 2012, he was selected as the instructor of Quantitative Theory, in 2013 as the instructor of Gushe Theory, in 2014 as the instructor of Madhyamaka Theory, in 2015 as the instructor of Interpretation Theory, and re-appointed in 2016. In the same year, he was awarded and anointed the title and certificate of Khenpo by His Holiness the 17th Karmapa Ugyen Triley Dorje. While serving as a tutor at Dzongsar Institute, he served as a part-time Finance Officer for more than four years, another post in the school's communal debate contest planning team for three years, and in charge of examinations for a year. Since 2017, he has been continuously studying Mandarin in Taiwan.
